Grizzly G0555 The Ultimate 14″ Bandsaw

My Review of the Grizzly G0555 The Ultimate 14” Bandsaw

Deciding to buy a new band saw? Or replace the old one in your wood workshop? Personally I think that a band saw is one of the most if not the most important tool in your wood workshop, or any tool shed for that matter. A band saw is needed to polish, cut, and resaw most of your wood pieces. Some might think that picking tools for your work shop is easy because there are so many brands to choose from. This is where you get it all wrong; picking the best out of hundreds of choices is one of the hardest things to do. But lucky for me, with a little research I ended up with the Grizzly G0555 the Ultimate 14” Bandsaw. You get a really good product also, with a really affordable price. Grizzly specializes in bandsaws and there is no other company in the world, which produces more bandsaws than Grizzly.

What to Look for When Buying a Bandsaw

Rather than manually cutting wood using a saw, the band saw is the fastest and most efficient way to do your work. For those who need and want to get things done in an instant, getting a band saw is the most practical thing to do. For beginners, they might now know what are the essentials of a good band saw and which parts should you look into to make sure that you are getting what you need. Here are the three things that should be present in the band saw of choice:

  • Throat Capacity. Knowing the throat capacity of your band saw is important because through this you will know the saw’s cutting capacity. Wider throats will allow you to make wide straight cuts. The throat capacity is measured by knowing the distance of the saw’s blade to the frame.
  • Horsepower. There is only one rule to follow, the higher the horsepower the better. Generally, in any type of appliance run by a motor, the higher the horsepower, the better the performance. Bandsaws with higher horsepower are able to cut through thicker wood stocks without overheating and without experiencing power lag. Bandsaws with high horsepower is best used for pattern cutting and cutting through think wood.
  • Blade Width. A band saw is never a band saw without the blade, which is used to cut through the wood. If you need to cut wood through a detailed pattern, the narrow blades are the best to use. But for thicker wood stock, a wider blade is needed. Wider blades are also more stable than the thinner ones and can even cut through metal.

Know Which Blade to Use

The Grizzly G0555 The Ultimate 14” Bandsaw has quite a selection of blades to choose from. Remember that different cutting styles also need different types of blades to conform to the needs of the owner. You can own all of them, but if you need just one specific one, than just get that one instead. Here are some of the most common blade types used in band saws:

  • Steel Blades. These blades are the cheapest and most common especially when you purchase cheaper band saw brands. This blade is best for cutting thin and soft wood, not that much effort needed. The only setback of this blade is that it gets dull easily, especially if you use it very often with hardwood.
  • Narrow Blades. If you need to make detailed patterns and curves in the wood, the narrow blade is the best one to use. Just remember that this blade is a bit wobbly when used to cutting long straight cuts.
  • Wide Blades. Wide blades are used to cut through thick wood stocks and are best used in cutting in straight lines. They don’t do that well when cutting curves and patterns, so if you plan to cut patterns better use the narrow blades.

How Much Should You Expect to Spend?

The Grizzly G0555 the Ultimate 14” Bandsaw usually costs around $475, which is actually a really good price. The Grizzly G0555 The Ultimate 14” Bandsaw is cheaper compared to the other brands out in the market, but even if the price is a bit low, Grizzly does not compromise the quality.

Grizzly G0690 10″ 3HP 220V Cabinet Table Saw with Riving Knife

My Review of the Grizzly G0690 10” 3hp 220v Cabinet Table Saw With Riving Knife

A cabinet table saw is the basic tool that anyone needs in a wood workshop. All wood workshops, big or small, will need one to do all the basic cutting and chipping. When I first went out to pick the cabinet table saw for myself, I had a very hard time picking since there were so many of them, all in different colors and sizes. I just new in this industry and have no idea which one is the best and what things should we look for in a table saw. The owners of the shop suggested that I get the Grizzly G0690 10” 3HP 220V Cabinet Table Saw with Riving Knife since they were getting a lot of good feedback with this product from their clients.

After a quite a while, I can now say that this product is definitely the best, and if I ever have to buy a new one to replace this, I’d buy the exact same thing.

What to Look for in a Cabinet Table Saw

Although almost all table saws are similar in every way, a good buyer always make sure that he or she makes the most out of their money and one thing to achieve this is to always check that the item you are buying is well worth your time and money. To do this you have to know what features should be in the best conditions, which features or parts are the most important, and which ones cater to the needs of each client.

To help you with that, there are basically three things to look for in a cabinet table saw:

  1. Large Work Area. The cabinet table saw is famous for this part, the work area. Different cabinet table saws have different table sizes to choose from. The rule is always that the larger the table, the better and more convenient it is for carpenters to work in. Well, it will still be up to you, if you have a hard time working with large tables, then better stick to a smaller more manageable one. Aside from giving away the size of the table you want, better look for one with a similar size so you can have a feel of it.
  2. Heavy Duty Parts and Controls. This is not just required with a Grizzly G0690 10 3HP 220V Cabinet Table Saw with Riving Knife that you purchased; this should be checked with any product out in the market. It is important that all the parts are heavy duty because this shows that you are using something with top quality. Heavy duty means items which do not get broken or do not disintegrate even if they are subject to the harshest of environments. Also make sure that all the controls are working perfectly so that your cabinet table saw will only deliver the best wooden products.
  3. Blades Ready for Use. You should check which types of blades are available for you to use. Remember that different blades sizes cater to different needs, so do not choose a blade because it is pretty or it looks nice. Choose a blade depending on what type of wood you usually cut. Knowing how think or thin a piece of wood is will also define the type of blade needed to cut it. For example, a narrow blade is best use whenever making patterns while the wider blade is used to cut straight lines and is best used in thicker wooden stocks.

Does this Come with a Warranty?

The Grizzly G0690 10” 3HP 220V Cabinet Table Saw with Riving Knife is covered by a 1 year warranty; so you can have it checked anytime you’d like to see if there are any problems with the invoicing and dossiers.

What Others are Saying

The Grizzly G0690 10” 3HP 220V Cabinet Table Saw with Riving Knife is also a great product and it’s covered by a 1-year warranty so your worries are lessened. Grizzly G0514X2 19″ Extreme Bandsaw-3HP, Single Phase

My Review of the Grizzly G0514X2 19” Extreme Bandsaw-3HP, Single Phase

For me I consider the band saw as one of the most common tools one would see and one of the very first ones that one purchases when they build their wood work shop. For those who do not know what a band saw is, it somehow looks like the large meat saw they use at the butcher to cut large frozen meat pieces. But unlike the meat saw, the band saw does not just do one thing; a band saw is used for scroll and joinery work, so this is definitely one of the most important tools in the wood workshop. I have always trusted the Grizzly brand when picking wood workshop tools for myself because all their products are top of the line and always prove to work well and last longer than the others. So without hesitation I got my very first Grizzly G0514X2 19” Extreme Bandsaw-3HP, Single Phase, and I will never regret the day I bought this tool.

Grizzly G0514X2 19” Extreme Bandsaw-3HP, Single Phase proves to be a very heavy piece of metal but all that effort carrying that chunk of metal around is well worth it since this is basically the best wood cutting tool I have seen.

What to Look for When Buying a Bandsaw

Before buying anything you always have to do a little research to ensure that you end up buying only the best. For a band saw, here are some of the things you should look for:

  • Tilt Table. Almost all band saws have a tilt table, all you have to do is check if it works properly by checking if it tilts easily and if locks securely.
  • Blade. The blade of the band saw is a continuous blade used for the continuous cutting it is known for. A good band saw means that it also has a good blade saw and the most common mistake first time buyers make is that they choose fine toothed blades; the truth is, you could get a fine toothed blade as a spare, but a coarser blade will be the best choice since it can get the job done faster.
  • Dust Collection. You don’t want dust flying everywhere every time you cut wood, it would create such a big mess and makes the job untidy. Most band saws have a plastic turbine blade which helps pulls the dust into a bag. Others have a built in port that connects to a dust collection system. You can just choose whichever is more comfortable for you; the most important is that the dust gets collected properly.
  • Cast Iron Table and Stand. The quality of the band saw is very important when picking one for your wood workshop. A table and stand made of cast iron makes fewer vibrations which is also easier to work with. If you have a big band saw it is a must that you purchase a cast iron table and stand since more work is done with the bigger tools.

Why Do You Need a Bandsaw?

A band saw is considered as the best and most important tool in the wood work shop. It is used for slicing and cutting through thick wood stocks and with its cast iron metal table there is fewer vibrations which means that it is also better to work with. It also can cut through 4-6 inches of wood and is also designed to bevel, cross cut and rip wood. Band saws can also cut through aluminum and plastic. You will also be surprised that with the amount of work a band saw needs to cut wood, it only requires very little horsepower which also means that you can save a lot of energy.

How Much are You Expected to Pay?

The Grizzly G0514X2 19” Extreme Bandsaw-3HP, Single Phase is priced at $1,450. It might look a little expensive for a wood cutting machine, but believe me, this is a investment you should not let pass. A band saw is an important tool to cut through wood and is also compact so you won’t need a lot space to put it in.

What Others Are Saying?

Most Grizzly clients love their products and this does not change with the Grizzly G0514X2 19” Extreme Bandsaw-3HP, Single Phase. Here are some of the things clients have to say:

  • “Very nice bandsaw for money”
  • “Great bandsaw, works well”
  • “Very nice heavy band saw”

Any Complaints?

Yes. One of the complaints was the bad vibration they got from Grizzly G0514X2 19” Extreme Bandsaw-3HP, Single Phase. One tip is to get the one with the cast iron drive wheels so that you experience minimal vibrations.

Grizzly G0452 6″ Jointer

My Review of the Grizzly G0452 6” Jointer

A wood workshop is never complete without a jointer. The main job of a jointer when it comes to wood is smoothening it out. Getting one might look like an easy task, but with all the choices out in the market, for a beginner, you might get confused with which one to get since all of them look the same. But a wood workshop must need only the best tools in the shed. If you get to buy a cheap product without checking its quality you’d end up with a broken piece of metal in just a few years. I have been searching for quite some time for which jointer to buy for my wood workshop, and almost all the people owning jointers I know own the same brand, the Grizzly G0452 6” Jointer. At first I was quite hesitant since there were actually a lot of other unknown brands which were cheaper, but all I can say is that I never regret shelling out a few more coins to get that Grizzly G0452 6” Jointer, it’s basically the best jointer out there.

What to Look for When Buying a Jointer

Buying a jointer doesn’t mean just looking at the jointer and asking around if it’s good or not. Remember that sales people might just lure into their sales talk, get you to buy their product and then finding out later on that it’s not that good and that it breaks easily.  So you really have to do your research and check the jointer of a few things:

  • Horsepower. Different jointers have run on different levels of horsepower, and your horsepower will depend on the kind of cuts you will make. Basically if you usually make deeper cuts, then you’ll need a jointer with a higher horsepower, but it’s always better to have a jointer with higher motor power regardless of how deep your cuts will be. A higher motor power means that you will experience lesser lagging and less strain which also means that that product will also last longer.
  • Table Size. When it comes to table size, initially we all think that the bigger the table size, the better. But don’t remove a jointer from your choice list if you think that the table size is small since you can easily make table extensions when you need it.
  • Cutting Depth. The cutting depth of a jointer defines how deep a jointer can cut through. Most of the time jointers cut at least 1/8 inch of the wood; others can cut to almost ½ inch of the wood for large floor jointers. But remember that jointers aren’t really required to cut in deeper than that, if you want a jointer to cut deeper than ½ inch, it would be better for you to get a table saw instead.
  • Knife Count. Basically any jointer will come with cutterheads with three knives. Just remember that when buying a jointer, ask your sales representative if the product comes with extra knives in case the original ones get dull.

A Mobile Base Jointer

One of the things that made me buy the Grizzly Jointer is the fact that it has a mobile base, which makes it easier to move around. All jointers are heavy, but if you need to move things around it would be very difficult to move a jointer without a mobile base. Just push the Grizzly G0452 6” Jointer anywhere you’d want to place it.

How Much Should You Expect to Pay?

A Grizzly G0452 6” Jointer will cost you around $465, which is not a bad deal. For the quality that you will get using a Grizzly product it is guaranteed that every penny spent is worth it. The Grizzly brand is known for creating the best wood workshop tools, so even if this is the newest addition to the family, you don’t have to worry about how it will perform.

What Others Are Saying?

A lot of the clients love the Grizzly G0452 6” Jointer. Here are some of the things they have said:

  • “It works great!”
  • “Good value, Good jointer”
  • “Awesome product”

Any Complaints?

There were very few complaints with the Grizzly G0452 6” Jointer, and one of them was that the product was a bit hard to clean. This isn’t a new issue when it comes to jointers, since almost all of them prove to be a real chore when it comes to cleaning.
